BSW - CAA - Basic Movement Animation

Basic Coin Movement

This exercise we completed yesterday on the 26th of Oct with Nat Urwin. We were briefed on what to do by Nat and was showed how to do it by a demonstration. We also had a pdf document to follow if we got stuck. The aim of this task was to have the coins all meet in the middle, left and right but appear to be moving at different speeds. One set of guide lines would have equal spacing and other ease in / ease out spacings.

I began the task strong adding the correct amount of frames and layers but then the first problem I ran into was a result of the spacing between guide lines. The guide lines are the foundation to making this animation work as the coin - the moving part  - would follow there spacings. The problem I had was that I couldn't figure out in my head an easy and efficient way to space them therefore I firstly referred to the instructional pdf file, then when I couldn't find it there I called Nat to help. Nat showed me a shortcut for quicker and consistent spacings, which allowed me to continue.

The next problem that stopped my working was then nearer the end where we had to add the swinging arced coin. There was no simple way of spacing the coin on the guideline as there were none on the arced line. All we had for reference were the left, right and middle of the guides where the coins would all meet. I asked Nat the best way to do this and I was told by eye. That is what I did using the onion skin tool - a tool where you can see previous and next frames.

I am happy with how my animation turned out and when I figure out how to post it on the blog page I will!

BSW - CAAyr2 - Character Design Sub Tasks

Character Design Sub Tasks We were tasked to give character to things that already existed. I was given the Guggenheim museum which is a very unique building already with a lot of character. I have given the prompt military so I thought of hard angles and uniformity, which is something this building did not have... When looking at the building for a while and thinking of the prompt I saw a battleship. With the long platform and the bridge-like feature, I figured that is what I will turn it into. I am happy with what I produced here letting myself be creative and lose which I am working very hard on. The main problem that Justin had with this is that it was unrealistic... It is more of a stylized piece rather than an actual thing people would work on and use, which is fine because it was not specified that realism was wanted. We were then tasked with creating an interior of a character given to us. Mine was an Aztec priest so I started researching what that entailed. They used to ...

BSW - CAA - Finches Concept Art - In progress

Finches Concept Art - In progress I have been continuing the finches piece after the research I carried out and I have finished another finch. I have done this one in a more cartoony style as I am exploring my choices for the animation. It has bold, consistent lines and boxed colours to make it pop and it has a big eye that makes it stand out. As of now, I am swaying towards the cartoon style more as I feel like a video for educational purpose, it will draw more people in...
