BSW - CAA - Bouncing Ball Physics

Bouncing Ball Physics Animation

We was tasked to create these two animations by Nat Urwin who provided us with a short PDF to keep us in check. Nat gave us a briefing on what to do and how to do it and we set off creating these short but key animations to help us progress in our knowledge in the software.

The idea and process is quite simple but requires precise adjustments to the objects in motion to make the animation look physically correct and smooth! I began by drawing the arcs - guide lines - to where the ball would follow, to do this was no problem and I completed it quickly, I locked the layer and moved onto the ball. I think I took a different approach to most people by first laying down where the ball would be positioned in each frame by pressing F7 - the 'next frame' key. Then I edited the ball in each frame afterwards. I got to get the ball looking natural and a bit more cartoony which might sound like it contradicts itself! I did this by squashing and stretching the ball at points where it was quickest or points where it hit the ground. The bellow image is the onion skin from the finished animation and the GIF bellow that is the final exported product.

This task was kind of the same premise as before however this time there would be three different balls all with different weights to them. Obviously the balls do not weigh anything in the software but it was our task to make the viewer think that they do. There is a ping pong ball, a tennis ball and a bowling ball. I wanted to add my own twist to the animation as originally Nat wanted the balls to fall from the top straight down but I decided to show something that would portray their weight better. A funnel! This meant the lighter balls would bounce more the lighter they were and the bowling ball just slam down and roll. I thought that I pulled off this animation quite well however if I were to do it again I would add more frames to the tennis balls path as it looks a bit choppy compared to the others...

Bellow is the onion skin for the final animation and again bellow that is the final exported GIF!

BSW - CAAyr2 - Character Design Sub Tasks

Character Design Sub Tasks We were tasked to give character to things that already existed. I was given the Guggenheim museum which is a very unique building already with a lot of character. I have given the prompt military so I thought of hard angles and uniformity, which is something this building did not have... When looking at the building for a while and thinking of the prompt I saw a battleship. With the long platform and the bridge-like feature, I figured that is what I will turn it into. I am happy with what I produced here letting myself be creative and lose which I am working very hard on. The main problem that Justin had with this is that it was unrealistic... It is more of a stylized piece rather than an actual thing people would work on and use, which is fine because it was not specified that realism was wanted. We were then tasked with creating an interior of a character given to us. Mine was an Aztec priest so I started researching what that entailed. They used to ...

BSW - CAA - Finches Concept Art - In progress

Finches Concept Art - In progress I have been continuing the finches piece after the research I carried out and I have finished another finch. I have done this one in a more cartoony style as I am exploring my choices for the animation. It has bold, consistent lines and boxed colours to make it pop and it has a big eye that makes it stand out. As of now, I am swaying towards the cartoon style more as I feel like a video for educational purpose, it will draw more people in...
