BSW - CAA - Maya Street Scene Detail

 Maya Street Scene Detail

These are details I have added or updated in my street scene to improve ambiance and depth in the render.

The main thing I have added are the lanterns. I wanted to models these completely originally so I created them from my own head using the knowledge of Chinese lanterns. I am glad with how these have turned out and fit in the scene. During a 1 - 1 with Simon, he showed me a way to do lights better if they are going to be paired with a physical object. That is a mesh light and the light becomes the object! I extracted the middle faces of the lanterns and made them into the mesh light. I used the same settings as I did for the previous point lights that I used before. I selected the show original mesh setting and made the centre faces slightly translucent to create the effect of the light shining through which looks really effective.

Another detail I changed was to do with the weather vanes. I wanted them to look more metallic and shiny atop the houses to I added a 'Blinn' material and played with the settings and colour to make them shine more with the light hitting them. I think this creates a really nice effect in the render as you see the refection more and make the detail pop.

I also assigned a lambert to the ribbons and changed there colours. This adds fun to the scene and creates depth to the story of the city whilst following the city description and my concept art. I really like how I modelled the ribbons with there twists and shape. I used the lattice deformer for this.

BSW - CAAyr2 - Character Design Sub Tasks

Character Design Sub Tasks We were tasked to give character to things that already existed. I was given the Guggenheim museum which is a very unique building already with a lot of character. I have given the prompt military so I thought of hard angles and uniformity, which is something this building did not have... When looking at the building for a while and thinking of the prompt I saw a battleship. With the long platform and the bridge-like feature, I figured that is what I will turn it into. I am happy with what I produced here letting myself be creative and lose which I am working very hard on. The main problem that Justin had with this is that it was unrealistic... It is more of a stylized piece rather than an actual thing people would work on and use, which is fine because it was not specified that realism was wanted. We were then tasked with creating an interior of a character given to us. Mine was an Aztec priest so I started researching what that entailed. They used to ...

BSW - CAA - Finches Concept Art - In progress

Finches Concept Art - In progress I have been continuing the finches piece after the research I carried out and I have finished another finch. I have done this one in a more cartoony style as I am exploring my choices for the animation. It has bold, consistent lines and boxed colours to make it pop and it has a big eye that makes it stand out. As of now, I am swaying towards the cartoon style more as I feel like a video for educational purpose, it will draw more people in...
