BSW - CAAyr2 - Film Review - Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone

Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone

We have completed our first film series lesson. We watched the film Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone which is a film I have watched many times in the past. However, this time I had to think about it in a very different way. I was watching the film to gain knowledge on the key stages of every film. Not just the beginning, middle, and end but the sub-stages that are in almost every film that we do not notice until researching them. We were briefed about Joseph Campbell's 17 stage Monomyth, which is the cycle of events that appears in all films. Whilst watching Harry Potter we had to look for these events to further understand the cycle.

For example, at the start of the film, the equilibrium is when harry is at home, as a normal kid. Then you have the call to adventure when Hagrid visits the house that the family moved to after the letters became too much for the dad to handle. Then you have the refusal of the call when Harry explains that he is "just Harry"...

At the end of the film on the return, you have the master of two worlds stage and this is shown when Harry is returning from Hogwarts and realises that it is his home and he will be back soon. He knows it's not over.

BSW - CAAyr2 - Character Design Sub Tasks

Character Design Sub Tasks We were tasked to give character to things that already existed. I was given the Guggenheim museum which is a very unique building already with a lot of character. I have given the prompt military so I thought of hard angles and uniformity, which is something this building did not have... When looking at the building for a while and thinking of the prompt I saw a battleship. With the long platform and the bridge-like feature, I figured that is what I will turn it into. I am happy with what I produced here letting myself be creative and lose which I am working very hard on. The main problem that Justin had with this is that it was unrealistic... It is more of a stylized piece rather than an actual thing people would work on and use, which is fine because it was not specified that realism was wanted. We were then tasked with creating an interior of a character given to us. Mine was an Aztec priest so I started researching what that entailed. They used to ...

BSW - CAA - Finches Concept Art - In progress

Finches Concept Art - In progress I have been continuing the finches piece after the research I carried out and I have finished another finch. I have done this one in a more cartoony style as I am exploring my choices for the animation. It has bold, consistent lines and boxed colours to make it pop and it has a big eye that makes it stand out. As of now, I am swaying towards the cartoon style more as I feel like a video for educational purpose, it will draw more people in...
