BSW - CAAyr2 - Film Review - Passengers

 Passengers

I wanted to watch and research into the film passengers as I feel as though the basic premise of the film is close to the plot that I want in mine. In the film, the main character Jim Preston played by Chris Pratt is awoken from his cryo pod as a result of a malfunction due to a huge meteor striking the station. The problem is that he is awoken early, with 90 years still to go on the station's journey to 'Homestead 11'. The reason that they are going there is because of Earth's overpopulation and to start a new fresh life.  He then spends a year by himself on the station alone, with only the company of a single robot bartender, before finding a girl, Aroura, in another cryo pod that catches his eye. He then reads up on her biography and ultimately falls in love, battling the thought of waking her up. The moral problem here is that he will basically doom her as they will never reach the planet to where they are headed.

He wakes her up but does not tell her that it was him so she thinks it is her cryo pod that malfunctions just like his own. Aroura falls in love with him and they spend another year together until she finds out that he has basically murdered her by waking her up early. They then separate as she refuses to speak to Jim. The station continues progressively failing as a result of that meteor that hit years ago. The two are forced to work together to overcome the obstacle of the inevitable destruction of the station carrying over 5000 people. The problem is then solved by the heroic act of Jim pretty much sacrificing himself, then getting cut off in space to then be saved by Aroura, sparking that love again after saving the station and the people on board. They then face the difficult decision when they realize there is a way to put them back to sleep for the rest of the voyage, but only one of them! However, they decide to live out the rest of their lives together on the ship...

At the end of the film when the other people wake up you see how the station has been transformed with trees, nature, life, animals everywhere clearly seeing how the two lived a happy rest of their lives.

The sounds of the film are very ambient, quite a lot of the time but when there are things happening the music will pick up and change as you would expect from a high-level production film. I want to re create the ambiance of the sounds in this film for my animation.

The Avalon:

The Station is a very cool design however I do not totally agree with it for a human race because of its unorthodox look with huge sweeping structures etc. It looks more alien than anything. I do like the interior and its modern look.

BSW - CAAyr2 - Character Design Sub Tasks

Character Design Sub Tasks We were tasked to give character to things that already existed. I was given the Guggenheim museum which is a very unique building already with a lot of character. I have given the prompt military so I thought of hard angles and uniformity, which is something this building did not have... When looking at the building for a while and thinking of the prompt I saw a battleship. With the long platform and the bridge-like feature, I figured that is what I will turn it into. I am happy with what I produced here letting myself be creative and lose which I am working very hard on. The main problem that Justin had with this is that it was unrealistic... It is more of a stylized piece rather than an actual thing people would work on and use, which is fine because it was not specified that realism was wanted. We were then tasked with creating an interior of a character given to us. Mine was an Aztec priest so I started researching what that entailed. They used to ...

BSW - CAA - Finches Concept Art - In progress

Finches Concept Art - In progress I have been continuing the finches piece after the research I carried out and I have finished another finch. I have done this one in a more cartoony style as I am exploring my choices for the animation. It has bold, consistent lines and boxed colours to make it pop and it has a big eye that makes it stand out. As of now, I am swaying towards the cartoon style more as I feel like a video for educational purpose, it will draw more people in...
