BSW - CAAyr2 - World / Story Building

World / Story Building In this post, I want to tighten up my story and plot also talking about the world and how it works...  Starting with the world, I want to talk about how it lives and breathes. Firstly I have named the world Pulseon, referring to the pulses of the heart. The core of the planet is a heart, functioning to push blood all around the world. The Veins that come straight from the heart are immense in scale, therefore, take up a lot of the landscape around where they are on the planet. In the story, the town is sat next to one of these main veins. The backstory of the animation is that the space station is carrying a certain amount of the last population of the Temporans in cryo, on a mission to find the next habitable planet for them to live. The reason behind this is that the planet had got destroyed and became uninhabitable for the race. This happened when the core of the planet - the heart - begins to have a heart attack, and because of the scale of the hea...

BSW - CAAyr2 - Concepts PT25 - Planet Pulseon

Planet Pulseon I have created an establishing shot of the planet Pulseon, where the Temporans and Lobe'ous dwell. As you can see, there are some veins that are visible from orbit, therefore, being huge. I want to use this fact to then give my scenes from the planet a large sense of scale. These huge veins are the main passageways for all of the smaller veins so they come straight from the core of the living planet... Which is a heart!

BSW - CAAyr2 - Tightening up Premise Story

Tightening up Premise Story I have been thinking about my story and my project for some time now, avoiding having to find a name for it, the race, the story itself... I feel as though I am at a point in the timeline where I NEED to figure this out. My thought process behind the names below lies within the fact that in the story, the twist at the end shows the character has been in a dream the whole time. Therefore I wanted to hint at this in the name of the race and character. Potential Project and Story Titles Drifting in Space Drifting into the Void Drifting Through the Void Potential Race Names Dreams are controlled by the Temporal Lobe of the brain, I want to tie this into the name of the race. Lobeians (Lobe-ee-ans) Lobese (Lobe-ease) Lobans (Lobe-ans) Temp'orians (Temp-or-ee-ans) Temporans Potential Character Names Po'ral Tem'poral Lobe'ous

BSW - CAAyr2 - Concepts PT24 - Project Colour Scheme Theme

Environment Colour Schemes I have been thinking about the environment and theme of the animation and color scheme. It is important to choose the right color to set the ambiance of the animation. I am going for a darker, more horrific, gruesome animation therefore I am more inclined to go for the darker and more horror-like colors. Like reds, oranges, blacks, etc. I have drawn an environment scene and have put hard light passes over the base scene to see how each color affects the ambiance. I feel as though I am going to take the red color scheme into further development as I feel like it fits the horrific theme I am going for with it relating to blood, etc.

BSW - CAAyr2 - Concepts PT 23 - Filling in Gaps - Original Alien Concepts

Original Alien Concepts I have been looking through the work I have completed for this project and have been sorting it as I wanted to make a start on the art of, being ready for the presentation next week. I have noticed gaps in my concepts where I entered a tunnel vision mode finding myself stick with ideas that I did first. Here are some alien concepts to add to the work.

BSW - CAAyr2 - Concepts PT22 - Art of Layouts

Art of Layouts I have created this concept art of layouts that I think will fit well with the theme and design of my project. I have included the veins that will appear in the animation and also the red hue. There will be a bar of light that will seamlessly re-appear on all pages to show the progress that the viewer is at through the art of, the light will be on progressively through the bar as the viewer scrolls through.

BSW - CAAyr2 - Premise Pre-Viz Alternative

Premise Pre-Viz Alternative In this version of the previz, I have created the new concept of the lobby area which is more unique and has a lot more scale to it. Because of the fact I was using the other pre-viz to try and tie in the new scene, some transitions are not as flawless as you will see... However, it still shows the new environment and the same story...

BSW - CAAyr2 - Premise Pre-Viz Complete

Premise Pre-Viz Complete I have completed the pre vizualisation for the project and I am very happy with how it has turned out. I think it really tells the story I am trying to get across. I enjoyed creating this pre viz and all of its models and environments as it gave me a nice break from doing the 2d work. I have done some post work too with the levels pass on premier pro to give the effect of blinking. I have not added any lighting the the scenes, but my plan is to create a new version of the pr viz, adding slightly new environments and lighting including fog. I have taken sounds used in the previz and added more to then fit the more rendered feel.

BSW - CAAyr2 - Premise Animatic Complete

Premise Animatic Complete I have completed the animatic for the project using the storyboard I created previously. I have added a few extra frames to make It flow better. I also whilst creating the animatic had to think about sounds wich will obviously be a huge thing in the final animation. I feel as though I have found really suiting sounds for the ambiance and horrific feel I am going for... Most of the sounds and created in audition using samples for a website I am subscribed too. I like the look of the  final thing and am now happy to move onto the pre visualisation using this structure.

BSW - CAAyr2 - Premise Storyboard Complete

Premise Storyboard Complete I have completed the storyboards for the project and I am happy to bring these into making the animatic. I have really focused on loosening up my drawings when it comes to the storyboards and animatic. I used to take a lot of time on these ending up getting bored then losing motivation to carry on, however, with a quick sketch and shade, the image still comes across the way I want it too, but takes less time.

BSW - CAAyr2 - Concepts PT21 - Space Station Lobby Concept

Space Station Lobby Concept I have been looking back through the work I have completed so far, intending to fill any gaps that I may have missed in my work. I found that I must have been in tunnel vision mode when creating parts of the interior of the ship, meaning I ended up sticking with the very first renditions of the rooms instead of exploring what they may look like in other forms. I also noticed that the lobby area looks very plain and box-like, therefore I have taken some time to complete a concept art for a different style of the lobby.  This one has a lot more originality to it and fits the theme of an alien ship better. There is a central point of the room the reception, surrounded by the check-in points the race will use.

BSW - CAAyr2 - Concepts PT20 - Lighting Concepts

Lighting Concepts After creating scenes that I like and environments I'm happy to use, I have been thinking about the lighting in the scenes, mainly the interiors. Considering that the scenes and ambiance consist of a monochrome red hue and mist, I need to add a high contrasting light source or color to be able to have the aesthetic contrast it will need. Instead of a color, I want to keep it monochrome, and to do this, the compromise will be to add a high-powered, bright white light. I think that I like the idea of having a singular bar of light wrapping around the scene. For example one light around the top of the ceiling or one light along the wall of the corridor... The light will contrast really well against the fog and mist of the scenes.

BSW - CAAyr2 - Pre Viz Modelling Progression

Pre Viz Modelling Progression I have been Improving and adding to my pre-viz models. Also beginning my pre-viz character model. I have really enjoyed the modeling stage of this project so far as I have been doing so much 2D work it has given me a well-needed break from it and made me enjoy it again as I feel my motivation was slowing down...
