BSW - CAA - Photoshop Basics

Photoshop Selection Tools and Masking          Today we were in DM5 with Chrissy who was showing us some more Photoshop basics. Specifically we were learning the selection tools and masking in depth creating examples and experimenting with them. We created and edited 5 images altering there features in any way we wanted but only using the selection and masking tools.           The first image shows a urban scene with a large neon sign which I would say is the focus of the image. We began by simply using the 'Rectangular Marquee Tool' which selects an area into a rectangular box, the size depending on how far you drag it. Once an area was selected, we created an adjustment layer and selected a random factor to adjust in the selected area to which I chose contrast and brightness. After, we used the 'Elliptical Marquee Tool' which instead of a rectangle, it created a circle. whilst creating a circle, holding shift would make it a...

BSW - CAA - Drawing class with Simon

Drawing Class with Simon          On Tuesday we had a drawing lesson where we would kind of test our skills in multiple 'challenge' tasks. I chose to work on photoshop doing the drawings digitally as I knew I needed to sharpen my skills on the tablet. Some chose to work on these drawings traditionally maybe as they felt they needed to sharpen there skills that way. These tasks I really enjoyed as for one I love drawing, also I know that the more I draw, the better I will get - especially on the digital tablet! The first two drawings we were allowed 10 minuets each and we had to pretty much copy the image on the slide that Simon was sharing. I feel I got the form and flow of the trees correct however if I was doing these drawing traditionally I would have depth, shading and a feel of a 3D form however because I was doing them digitally, I ended up with a flat looking image. This isn't a problem for me as I just wanted to get more used to using the...

BSW - CAA - Life Drawing Lesson 1

Life Drawing - Students Models                On Monday the 26th of Oct we had our first life drawing class which turned out to be a lot different then I thought. To start with I came into the class very confident as I had done life drawing previously in my final foundation year, therefore I knew what to expect. I had drawn a lady before in that class and I though I had done really well with capturing the form and flow of the body as well as decent proportion - I will add the images of this at the end of this post!  The problem we had with this lesson however was that the male model was ill with food poisoning and I don't want to know how that would have turned out if he decided to attend the class! The alternative option that we had to take was for the students to model for the subject to draw. I was the first to volunteer and we had to sit for 10 minuets each. Personally it is a weird feeling to have 15+ other people staring at you! Af...

BSW - CAA - Morph Animation - IN PROGRESS

Morphing Animation          This is the first animation we had started this year with Nat Urwin. This is a work in progress post sharing my thoughts on the task. The morphing animation will show at the end a portrait of my face, morphing into a hot dog, into a sloth and finally back to my face.          Luckily I have already had some experience with the animate software from my  foundation years, so I knew the very basics. I had to note the short cut keys again however as that left my head over the lockdown period.           I have had no problems with this animation so far other then the fact of only just as I am writing this post being able to work from home. I have only just got this computer set up and running and have only just downloaded all the software I need. So tomorrow on Wednesday I will hopefully have this completed and ready to show you all!          Bel...

BSW - CAA - Basic Movement Animation

Basic Coin Movement          This exercise we completed yesterday on the 26th of Oct with Nat Urwin. We were briefed on what to do by Nat and was showed how to do it by a demonstration. We also had a pdf document to follow if we got stuck. The aim of this task was to have the coins all meet in the middle, left and right but appear to be moving at different speeds. One set of guide lines would have equal spacing and other ease in / ease out spacings. I began the task strong adding the correct amount of frames and layers but then the first problem I ran into was a result of the spacing between guide lines. The guide lines are the foundation to making this animation work as the coin - the moving part  - would follow there spacings. The problem I had was that I couldn't figure out in my head an easy and efficient way to space them therefore I firstly referred to the instructional pdf file, then when I couldn't find it there ...
