BSW - CAA - Development Reflection 1

Development Reflection Below is the street scene development reflection to highlight the changes I made to the scene and why.

BSW - CAA - Developed Street Scene

Developed Street Scene Below is the image of the updated street scene drawing. I added features to the original final drawing from the first project to add detail, depth and a more lived in feel to the city. The next post will show the development reflection sheet I completed highlighting what I added and why. Below that is what I thought would be my finished street scene for reference of how much the image has changed!

BSW - CAA - Photoshop and Illustrator Tutorials

Photoshop and Illustrator Tutorials Below are images of the tasks we did today in our photoshop and illustrator tutorials. Consisting of shading and layer work, and shape work creating symbols to save and use. I will use the skills learned today and apple them to future software work as they have features I did not know about before.

BSW - CAA - Street View Reflection and Annotation

Zenobia Final Scene Choice For the second project I have chosen the second digital drawing, the street scene for my city, to be the subject of my final outcome. After reflection and a tutorial with Simon I have put together a mood board showing what I want to change and what I want to add to the initial drawing and also what will be added to the final result. Bellow are annotations I made going further in depth on this.

BSW - CAA - Maya Chicken Coup In Progress

Maya Chicken Coup In Progress Bellow are the images at the stage of finished UV's for the chicken coup task. I have enjoyed the learning experience so far on getting the know the software and I am very keen to continue the learning to apply the knowledge to future tasks and projects.

BSW - CAA - Zenobia Travelogue

Zenobia Travelogue I know about this amazing place like you have never seen before! It stretches far through the valley also high above it and casts huge shadows upon the ground below. This place that I am talking about is the city of Zenobia! I have had the chance to have been there once myself and had never travelled anywhere like it. For one, seen from the ground you are almost fearful of its scale, towering above you standing on hundreds of great stilts crossing each other as they hold the weight of the buildings above. You notice the ladders that are tied into the chaos of the stilts and that is your way in. The whole view from the ground is quite enticing as you see the glow and aura of the lights and shadows. Then the noise that the city produces from its creaking stilts to twisting metal features. You get a deep feeling of danger and adventure when climbing the never ending ladders that allow you into the city. Once your feet are back on solid ground you look around to se...

BSW - CAA - Running Animation

Running Animation Bellow are the GIF's for the running animation task set by Nat. I really enjoyed creating the running man as along with the walking animation I have been wanting to practice creating movement in characters. There are only 2 animations here however they each have 2 different frame rates, one 24 and one 12.  12 fps makes the running clearly recognisable and you can see how the arms and legs move in the different frames although the animation seems slightly 'choppy'.  24 frames is a lot smoother in the animation however the speed in which the character is moving it is a lot harder to read what is happening although you could say because he is running it gives the effect of high speed.

BSW - CAA - Walking Animation

Walking Man Animation Bellow are the GIF's of the walking animation task set by Nat on Monday the 16th.  These animations were really fun to make as walking was something I had wanted to begin to learn from the start. I took a more cartoonish approach with it as I thought it would give the subject more character with its bouncing steps. The first GIF shows the animation of man walking but focusing on the head bop and that's why it looks like he is sliding across the floor. The Second shows the man walking 'on the spot' using the frames from the first animation and stacking them on top of each other creating the effect. I added a secondary animation to it with a simple pole which aids the effect of him walking. The final was the most time consuming where he is 'realistically' walking along the floor. This effect is created by taking the frames from the first animation but using the feet and the anchor points for the different frames.

BSW - CAA - Artist Studies for Nat

Bill Plympton Bill Plympton is an American animator, graphic designer, cartoonist, and filmmaker who was born in 1946, best known for his 1987 Award-nominated animated short Your Face. he studied graphic design at Portland State University later transferring to the school of visual arts in New York where he majored in Cartooning. He graduated from there in 1969. His animation style mainly consists of hand drawn animation and has a weird and comedic theme. Nat in one of the lessons showed us a cool animation of his where it is a mans head morphing and changing shape in all different ways.  I think I relate to Bill in the fact that he went to Uni for art and came out with a career in animation - or cartooning in his time - and that is what I am striving to achieve! Richard Williams Richard Williams was born in 1933 in Toronto, Canada and unfortunately died last year in August. He was best known for his role in 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit' as director of animation. The a...

BSW - CAA - Final Drawing Animated GIF's

Animated Progress GIF's Bellow are the three animated GIFs for the final drawings for the city of Zenobia showing my progress and journey creating the artwork! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BSW - CAA - My Final Digital Painting of Zenobia - 3

Zenobia Final Drawing 3 This is my third drawing of the city of Zenobia and shows an interior view of the main building in the second drawing. I wanted to portray scale in this image and I feel even though it may be simpler then the other drawings, it shows it scale very well.  Again with this drawing I used the lighting to create a really nice atmosphere in the building. Sticking with the night time theme of the second drawing I could create really good contrast with the shadows and lighting that is shown through the windows and doors of the building. I really like the detail of the holes in the floor showing the stilts underneath. I like how the rail shows the scale of the building as we know they are about the height of half a human. I feel with more time I could add more detail and texture into the drawing however the point it is at brings pure atmosphere for the viewer.

BSW - CAA - My Final Digital Painting of Zenobia - 2

Zenobia Final Drawing 2          This is the second drawing I completed of Zenobia and it is of a street view shot. This shows a view of a 'street' in the city of Zenobia, looking towards a giant main building in the distance. I am really happy with how this drawing turned out and is my favourite of the three.  I also however, had the most struggle with it as there was a point where I thought I was finished and hated what I had done. This is when I asked for advice on what to do from Simon and he told me about the lighting and extra details I should add. Bellow shows the finished image but still underneath the lighting is the point where I hated it. It has made me realise the impact that texture and lighting has to a digital drawing and I will definitely take this knowledge gained into every other painting I do!

BSW - CAA - My final Digital Painting of Zenobia - 1

Zenobia  Final Drawing 1              This first image shows the first digital painting I completed and is an establishing shot of the city. This means you are looking at the city from a far away view looking into it, establishing what you might expect!  I chose this view from being inspired by an image I saw of a mountainous landscape after researching dry terrain whilst creating my influence map. I saw in my head immediately what I wanted the basic premise of this drawing to look like and where the city would sit.  After creating the background of this image I realised I had 'accidently' created a new style of drawing that I had never used before with the block colours and bold lining. I like this style as it it a efficient way of digitally drawing. I was stuck after the completion of the background and encountered my first big problem. I had all the ideas in my head but I needed Simon to help me with laying them down and he sho...

BSW - CAA - Second Building Idea

Second Building Idea          This building comes from the country of Cambodia and is the style of the houses in the fishing villages. I do not think I will use these building styles in my final drawings as I don't think they bring enough originality to the kind of work I'm looking to create. I do however like the feature of the extended balcony with the overhanging roof.

BSW - CAA - First Building Idea

First Building Idea Bellow is the image of the drawing I did for the first idea of the housing in my city. I found an old Chinese village that has all its housing on stilts just like the city Zenobia is described. I really like this style of building as they are very unique with its two tiered floors and shape. I have added different features to the source image including the walkway, coned roof, fishing rod, weather vanes and barrels all to match the details of the writing. I will most likely use this Building in my final drawings as I like the uniqueness that they bring and I feel they will add something not many other building have to the 'history' of the city.

BSW - CAA - In Progress Stages for First Drawing

Stages So Far          Bellow are images of the stages of the drawings I have done so far, for the first digital drawing, for the Invisible Cities project. I am very happy with how this is going and I have a clear idea in my head of what I want the final image to look like for this first drawing. Before adding the buildings to the background (bellow), I will make different mood board documents testing different buildings on paper.  1. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. ------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 4. --------------------------------------------------------------------- 5. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 6. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 7.

BSW - CAA - Maya Chicken Coop

Maya Chicken Coop Bellow are images of the Structure of the chicken coop Before the UV's are added. I enjoyed this process of making the object as I could use the skills learned from the Lego car and apply them well in this task. Soon we will be having a lesson on the UV's so that we will be able to progress further by then being able to texture the object and once learned in here then we will be able to do the same with the Lego car and finally be able to animate it!

BSW - CAA - Final City Reference Images

Influence Map for Zenobia Bellow are all the images I have found for helping me with my digital drawings. They relate to the description of the city of Zenobia and they will help me with putting my ideas together hopefully creating really good artwork at the end of it! I will use the features like the stilts, balconies, interior spaces, shape and detail of these images to put my final drawings together.
