Reflective Statement
To reflect on the project so far, I feel as though the thing that I have most to be proud of, is my progression in skill and project management. It has been the project that I have had the most freedom for creation than the ones we have done previously. It has allowed me to become better as a creative through storytelling skills and character creation, which is definitely one of my weakest points. I have kept everything in order, and have kept a consistent workflow throughout, meaning doing research, doing the work, posting, and reflecting on the work. I feel like this is the key to time management and progression as you will always be able to look back on the work and see where you are at that point in the project. I used this process throughout my premise.
There are definitely things I am going to work on, however. For example, I usually go into a tunnel vision state, where I have an idea that sounds perfect in my head, so the first concepts I draw, I stick with. Like Lobe'ous' house, you can see that there is only one concept for it, only one look. I could have expanded on this massively by creating a load of different designs, which would in turn benefit me later as I could use the different concepts for buildings in the city. So trying to get out of this habit will make me more and more able to produce mass amounts of ideas, thumbnails, and concepts so if I were ever in a client situation, I would give them the most for their money...
One thing that I do really want to improve on, even though I haven't had to do much of it at this stage of the project, is texturing. I understand the importance of the texturing process and how it can transform the simplest mesh, into a detailed object. I feel like I have a very good understanding of how texturing works, however, just do not have the best knowledge on how to get it done, mainly exporting the different maps...
Over the summer I will be working through the rest of Toolkit 2 to be able to be ready and up to date on skills before going on to completing minor work. This includes completing JPJ, texturing, rigging, all of it. Also getting the lighting and texturing tutorials done and revised as a result of how important they are to the upcoming stages of the project.
Overall I am really happy with how far I have come with this project, getting a solid foundation for what will potentially be an amazing animation to be able to expand upon my portfolio.
